If you’ve just begun your Invisalign journey, it can take some getting used to. The aligners are made from a durable plastic that should snap in place over your teeth and hold there for the duration. However, if you’re experiencing issues with the fit of your Invisalign aligners, you’re not alone.
If you need a few strategies to get your aligners onto your teeth, continue reading.
1. Try Using the Chewies
Invisalign kits come with some soft cylindrical chew sticks that can be used to seat your aligners. These chewies are made so that you can bite down on them and gently work your aligners into place.
Start by putting your aligners on, then bite down on the chewie starting at the back of your teeth and working it around to the other side. This will get rid of any excess air bubbles that may be the cause of their mischief.
2. Inspect the Aligners for Damage
Invisalign uses a durable proprietary plastic that can stand up to significant pressure from bite force. However, they’re not indestructible. The trays can get cracks in them, but there’s no need to panic unless it’s hindering your ability to wear them.
If the aligner is cut, or won’t fit properly due to a break, you should see your dentist for a replacement.
3. Ask Your Dentist About “Backtracking”
If your new aligner won’t fit properly, you may not have been wearing your previous one correctly. Each time you switch to a new set, you must wear them for 22 hours a day, even while you sleep. If you haven’t been doing this, chances are that your teeth aren’t ready.
If this is the case, you should ask your dentist if you need to return to a previous set of aligners. This can help shift your teeth into the correct positions for the next tray.
4. If All Else Fails, See Your Dentist
If you’ve tried everything, and they just don’t seem to fit, schedule an appointment with your dentist. They will be able to examine you and see why your aligners aren’t fitting correctly. This could be due to an unforeseen shift in your teeth, a flaw with the aligner, or some other issue.
With the tips above, you’ll quickly be able to troubleshoot your Invisalign trays and continue your treatment. Remember that your dentist is a resource you can utilize if you need help. Give them a call if you run into any other problems. They can help guide you into a better smile.
