You may have gone to the same dentist for years. They have a great chairside manner, they always treat you with compassion, and you’ve established a good relationship with them. You want to rely on them for any dental treatment you may need — but is that really a good idea? Most general dentists are quite good at performing all the basic services you need to maintain a healthy smile. However, it is best to seek out a specialist, such as a periodontist or prosthodontist in Jacksonville, for some services.
When Should You See a Specialist?
Dentists are required to undergo continuing education each year, and some of them use that extra learning to expand the services they offer. They may learn to place dental implants in Jacksonville or perform treatments to help diseased gums recover. However, a few days or weeks spent in a classroom can’t prepare these dentists to address extremely complex cases.
If you have missing teeth, advanced gum disease, or another condition that requires an expert touch, we recommend that you seek out someone who has extensive training that enables them to handle cases like yours. Why take a risk with your smile’s health?
The Specialists in Our Office
We’re proud to offer basic dental services in our practice, but we also go above and beyond the services that you would expect to be able to receive from any dentist. In fact, we have two highly trained specialists ready to serve you.
Most dentists can design restorations (crowns, bridges, dentures, etc), but the basic training that they receive in dental school really only scratches the surface of how to make crowns and bridges that perform at their best. Dr. Matthew Nawrocki is a prosthodontist; after he completed his training in general dentistry, he went on to study the nuances of how to create beautiful restorations. The artificial teeth that he designs are natural-looking and custom-made for you so they will make your restored bite as comfortable as possible.
Dr. Richard Aguila is a periodontist in Jacksonville. In addition to general dentistry skills, he has the ability to treat even complex gum problems. If you need gum grafting, soft tissue laser therapy, or other treatment to get your periodontal health back on track, you can rely on Dr. Aguila. He has also completed advanced training in implant placement.
Both of our doctors work together to plan and implement treatment for even the most complex cases of gum problems and missing teeth.
Unfortunately, Drs. Nawrocki and Aguila have seen some patients who received implants from general dentists and have experienced complications as a result. They would rather that you avoid such problems and come to them from the start of your journey toward regaining your oral health. Seeing a specialist truly pays off!
